The feast of the Epiphany in Xaghra this year took a more real and royal aspect with the re-enactment of the arrival of the Magi there. On Sunday 3 December, the Three Wise Men, taking different routes in the town, converged on Victory Square on horseback clad in Oriental Royal outfits, the horses kindly provided by Muscat`s Stables of Xaghra. They arrived in the Square at 10.40 a.m. where they were given a great welcome by the crowd gathered there. Three pageboys preceded them carrying the gifts of gold, incense and myrrh. For ten minutes they filed around the Square so that all those present, young and old, could have a closer look at them and admire their royal attire, the work of seamstress Mrs. Beatrix Cini and Mr. John Attard who designed them. When it was time for 11.00 a.m. Mass to start they dismounted their horses and walked to the Church Parvis where Archpriest Mgr. Carmelo Refalo was waiting to greet them. Then they entered the Basilica of Maria Bambina paying homage to Baby Jesus by placing the Biblical Gifts in front of the High Altar above which was the effigy of Baby Jesus. Later on during Mass they went up the nave with Mass offerings. The Choir Schola Cantorum Jubilate under the direction of Ms Marouska Attard accompanied on the organ by Jean Paul Attard animated the singing. Seminarian Simon Cachia animated Mass sung by Canon George Farrugia. This activity, the first of its kind in the Maltese Islands, was organized by the Group Il-Milied fix-Xaghra (Society Christmas in Xaghra) and is the brainchild of Mr. Victor Agius, its founder and President with the full collaboration of Xaghra Archpriest Mgr. Carmelo Refalo. On this original note, the Christmas festivities in Xaghra were brought to a happy end.
