Xaghra Parish » Gallery » 2009 » 19 MAR 09 - LITURGICAL FEAST OF ST JOSEPH

The Parish of Xaghra has Our Lady - The Naitivity - as its patron, St Joseph being co patron. It is no surprise therefore that one of the three Confraternities of the Parish is dedicated to St Joseph and the feast celebrated solemnly on the first Sunday in May. In Rabat Malta the feast of St Joseph is celebrated on its liturgical day, 19th March. It was 500 years ago this year that the Church in Malta declared the feast to be feast of obligation and the day was declared a public holiday in honour of St Joseph. To celebrate this anniversary, the Confraternity of St Joseph in Xaghra was one of the confraternities invited to take part in the procession in the evening. And the brotherhood with joy accepted the invitation. Pictures show them taking part in the procession which left the Church of Santa Marija ta' Gesu' run by the Franciscan Friars Minor. Malta pictures are courtesy of John attard.
